Sip at a Women Lead Wine Bar
Step into the warm, inviting atmosphere of Famelia, a pioneering wine store championing women in the wine industry. The store’s exposed brick walls and moody lighting set the stage for an evening of discovery, enhanced by the lively buzz of an engaged crowd. Famelia’s unique business model focuses exclusively on wines produced by women-owned, operated, or led vineyards and wineries, offering a refreshing shift in a traditionally male-dominated field.
During our visit, we participated in a wine tasting led by the women behind Parley wines, known for their innovative approach to winemaking. They shared insights into their techniques, from the selection of grapes by friends to owning their own equipment, making each sip a lesson in the passion and precision of wine production. The tasting included a delightful pairing with whipped feta and blood orange, a combination that balanced creamy, salty, and citrus flavors perfectly.
Famelia not only offers a chance to taste exceptional wines but also serves as a beacon for female empowerment in the wine industry. Each bottle tells a story of challenge, change, and triumph, making Famelia a must-visit for anyone looking to support and savor the contributions of women to the world of wine.
Enjoy a set-menu at Coogee Wine Room
Settle into the welcoming ambience of Coogee Wine Room, a gem nestled in the vibrant heart of Coogee. This elegant spot is not just about wine; it’s a culinary delight that caters to all your senses. We indulged in their “Feed Me” menu, a lavish set-menu designed to take diners on a rich, flavorful journey.
The evening started with a delectable smoked hummus accompanied by za’atar and flatbread, followed by a beautifully presented Vannella burratina with heirloom carrots, hazelnuts, and an intriguing carrot & coffee dressing. The main course featured a generously sized 350g O’Connor superior angus scotch fillet, enhanced with a leafy green salad with herbs and quince dressing, and complemented by crispy potato fries with garlic mayonnaise.
For dessert, the menu offered a twist with CWR Chocolate Truffles and a spiced boozy baba with crème fraîche, banana toffee, and candied cocoa nib. While the spiced boozy baba was a touch too sweet for my taste, it was a unique blend that could delight those with a penchant for sweeter, richer desserts.
Each dish was paired exquisitely with wines that underscored and elevated the flavors of the meals, curated for a harmonious dining experience. Although one dish didn’t quite dance to my tune, the overall experience was a testament to the chef’s prowess and the thoughtfully crafted atmosphere of the Coogee Wine Room. The service was impeccable, with staff who were not only knowledgeable about their wine list but also passionate about ensuring a memorable dining experience. Whether you’re a local or just passing through, Coogee Wine Room offers a sophisticated yet comfortable setting perfect for any occasion.

Warm up with a cosy night in
Warm up with a cozy night in by creating the perfect setting for relaxation and comfort.
Start with a beautifully arranged cheese board featuring a variety of cheeses, fruits, and crackers. Pair it with your favorite wine or a selection of soothing teas. Settle into your most comfortable lounging area, maybe add some soft blankets and dim the lights for a gentle ambiance.
As you sip and savor, let the conversation flow or dive into a good book. This simple pleasure can transform an ordinary evening into a memorable, warm experience, ideal for unwinding and reconnecting with yourself or loved ones in the comfort of your own home.
We enjoyed exactly this at our stay in Casa Casetta, and absolutely loved it. We paired a nice comforting bottle of red with a delightful cheese from the local grocer Maloney’s down in Coogee, paired it with some crakcers, and grapes and settled in for a comfortable night. The beautiful lounge area in the apartment made it easy to be super comfortable and enjoy some time just relaxing and staying cosy.
Would highly recommend taking the opportunity to just have a slow cosy evening, perhaps with your favorite movie, TV show, or board game.
