Cruise the 12 Islands
Cruising the 12 Islands was one of our favorite activities in Fethiye. This full-day adventure took us to four stunning stops, allowing us to swim in pristine waters accessible only by boat. The boat was comfortable, offering a relaxing environment as we sailed through the turquoise sea. Lunch was provided, and while it wasn’t gourmet, it was perfectly satisfactory. This very affordable day trip, costing well under $60 AUD per person, provided an incredible experience, combining breathtaking scenery, unique swimming spots, and the joy of exploring hidden gems. If you’re in the area, this cruise is a must-do.
Stroll Through Fethiye Old Town (Paspatur)
Our visit to Fira, the bustling capital of Santorini, was a highlight of our trip. Perched on the edge of the caldera, Fira offers breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea and dramatic volcanic cliffs.
Walking through Fira’s narrow, cobblestone streets, we enjoyed the blend of traditional Greek architecture and modern shops, cafes, and art galleries. The town is perfect for exploring local boutiques and picking up handmade jewelry and unique souvenirs.
The dining in Fira is fantastic, with numerous restaurants offering delicious Greek cuisine and terraces with panoramic caldera views. We savored fresh seafood and traditional dishes like moussaka and souvlaki while soaking in the stunning scenery.
The stairs from the bay at the base of the cliff to the top are a challenge, especially in peak summer, so we don’t recommend tackling them during the hottest months.
While Fira is vibrant and full of life, it’s not as extensive as Oia, so you don’t need as much time to explore. A morning or afternoon is plenty to experience the best of what Fira has to offer.
Overall, Fira’s lively atmosphere, stunning views, and rich cultural experiences make it a must-visit destination on Santorini.

Visit a Traditional Turkish Bath
Another one we missed (we only had two days), but have on the wishlist for next time.
Experiencing a traditional Turkish bath, or hammam, is a must when visiting Fethiye. The hammam ritual, which dates back centuries, involves a series of cleansing and relaxation treatments designed to rejuvenate the body and mind. It’s an authentic cultural experience that offers a unique way to unwind and refresh.
During a visit to a Turkish bath, you’ll start with a steam session in a warm marble room, followed by a thorough scrub to exfoliate the skin. Next, you’ll enjoy a soothing foam massage, often followed by a relaxing oil massage. The entire process leaves you feeling invigorated and revitalized.
Fethiye boasts several traditional Turkish baths where you can indulge in this time-honored practice:
1. Old Turkish Bath Fethiye (Eski Hamam)
– One of the oldest baths in the region, offering an authentic and historic experience.
2. Sultan Hamam Fethiye
– Known for its excellent service and serene atmosphere, perfect for first-time visitors.
3. Kings Garden Hamam
– A luxurious option with modern amenities and traditional treatments.
4. Çalış Beach Hamam
– Conveniently located near Çalış Beach, combining a beach day with a relaxing hammam session.
Visiting a traditional Turkish bath in Fethiye is more than just a spa experience; it’s a journey into the heart of Turkish culture and hospitality. Whether you choose a historic bath or a modern facility, the hammam is sure to be a highlight of your trip.

From succulent kebabs to fresh seafood, and from aromatic mezes to sweet baklava, every meal in Fethiye is an opportunity to experience the vibrant tastes and traditions of the region.
We enjoyed every meal we ate in Fethiye, and some of our favourites were simple, no-frills turkish meals at very underwhelming looking establishments. Keep in mind, that really is part of the charm.
